First post in 2014! Explanations in the upcoming post :p
I know I'm utterly late for this post but well, it doesn't matter. RIP Nelson Mandela, I definitely know who you were, and that's how I came to know of such a great person from such a wonderful Cantopop band from Hong Kong (my all-time fav) Beyond.
This song was written especially by Beyond for Nelson Mandela. When Nelson Mandela heard it and read the translated lyrics, he broke into tears which served specially as a tribute to Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, a former president of S.Africa. In 1991, Beyond visited Kenya and witnessed the grinding poverty and misery there. Upon their return, a number of songs were written addressing the serious problems of Africa. The Beyond Third World Foundation was created in the same year with profits from the redistribution of an early album.
The translated lyrics in English :
The bell rings out signals for home
His life seems to be fulled of sadness
To him the meaning of being Black
is to devote the life to racial fights
Time turns gaining into losing
Tiresome eyes still shine hope
Only the body remains today
to welcome the glorious days
Embracing freedom in stormy days
Never stop struggling with uncertainty
Believing the future can be altered
Asking who can be the same
Can we bring down the boundary of races
Wishing in this land
no one will weights the value of one another
The beauty of multicolors
is because it doesn't sort out each color
That should be all for today. It's my first ever post since 2013, sorry for the laziness and inconsistency! Explanation in the next post (fingers crossed xp), hopefully! :)
RIP Nelson Mandela.
LELxx
