海闊天空 (Hoi Fut Tin Hung)

Boundless Oceans Vast Skies in English.

Beyond released this song in May 1993 and it became Wong Ka Kui's last song with the band members :'(

Let this mark the importance of legitimate Hong Kong/Chinese music. Although Beyond has disbanded, at least it existed and because true music is timeless! :)

This song is about following one's dream. And also about the music journey of the group and the music industry in Hong Kong. One of my favorite lines;

多少次迎著冷眼與嘲笑, 從沒有放棄過心中的理想..
(doh siu chi ying jeuk laang ngaan yue jaau siu, chung moot yau fong hei gwoh sum jung dik lei seung)
Many times I have been looked down on and ridiculed but I have never given up on my dream..

The whole meaning;

The sea is wide, the sky is endless
Today in the cold night I see snowflakes passing by
Carrying my frozen heart I flow afar
Chasing through the blowing wind and rain, yet in the mist I no longer see things clear
Between the wide sea and endless sky,
You and me maybe will change (who doesn't change)
How many times have I faced cold stares and laughs
Yet I'm not giving up and letting go of my dream
In a moment as if the feeling of lost,
Slowly, not knowing, my love is fading (who understands me)

Forgive me that in this life I did not let my love free
Though in fear that one day I will fall
Giving up dreams, anyone would be able too
Only one day you would be with me

Yet still letting myself free
Forever singing songs
Travelled thousands of miles

光輝歲月 (Gwong Fai Seui Yut)

One of the songs which I like the most :D Glorious Year is the meaning of the title.

The lines of the lyric in which I find meaningful are:

可否不分膚色的界限 (ho fau bat fan fu sik dik gai han)
願這土地裡不分你我高低 (yun je tou dei leui bat fan nei ngo gou dai)
繽紛色彩閃出的美麗 (ban fan sik choi sim cheut dik mei lai)
是因它沒有 分開每種色彩 (si yan ta mut yau fan hoi mui jung sik choi)

It simply means,

"If people are not divided by the colors of skins, we will all be equal rather than being judged in this land. Beauty shines through the colors of the world, because the world is not separated apart by colors."

This song is one of the band's signature songs and I would say this song was about racism and the struggle of Nelson Mandela in South Africa.

Now you know WHY I LIKE this song so much :) and how they rock it with the guitars :3 also not forgetting the drummer *facepalm

真的愛你 (zan dik oi nei/zen de ai ni)

 A very nice song (Y) (Y)

Especially how Paul rocked it with the guitar. LOL.

This song basically means Really Love You in English. A song dedicated for mothers/love for mothers.

The pair of hands that can't be made up anymore
Have given me warmth from behind all the time
Though long-winded in words, she always shows her concern
I feel really guilty for paying back with disregard

She did not appreciate the way I was addicted in musical scale
Yet she has never withheld me from the maternal love
I've decided to break out from my inner struggle
In order to repay my debt of gratitude someday

Her beneficial influence has thoroughly warmed up my heart
She forever looks after me and gives me everything without complain

Thanks to your tender gaze
I have been taught to be persistent and forward looking
I've been urged to never give up when I fall down

I can't explain how to fully repay my debt of gratitude
Love is magnanimity without bounds
Please allow me to merely say "I truly love you"

I still remember the pair of tender hands,
Forever looking after me without fail
Today I've finally achieved my dream
I hope you can have a share in my glory.

Appreciation

Hello everyone! It has been really long since my last post. It's because I was really busy and had no time to blog. This evening, I'm going to blog about something really different from my usual posts. You know me; I'm a 19 years old girl in the 21st century, people will think I'm just another typical girl who only appreciates trendy stuffs. But trust me, you won't like it when I say I actually listen to old songs especially from Chinese singers. Call me weird or anything, so what if I appreciate good things/musics regardless of which century they were in. Sigh. To be honest, I think I'm weird too but it sounds too rude to myself so I replace it with unique.

I'm sure some of you know the Hong Kong band called Beyond. I didn't know about it until about a few years back when one of my friends told me. Just so you know, I was an English educated girl and I have a great passion to learn Chinese :3 Really! I searched on Youtube for Beyond's songs, after listening to their songs, I cannot take it why on Earth didn't I know such awesome songs before this :'( But heh, the band was in my dad's century lol I appreciate their really meaningful lyrics (I searched the meaning in English, hard to be a banana) and their talents. One of the reasons that makes me appreciate their musics is the band was, and still is influential and inspiring. I also love Wong Ka Kui's unique and powerful voice and how he was able to convey a wide range of emotions in some of the songs he sang in the band's concert, like he had a really good voice. He was the main vocalist and he composed 90% of the songs sung by them. His perseverance and determination because it inspired me and thanks to his unique and powerful voice that now I'm addicted to the band's songs ._.v

I find it very sad when the band members decided to pursue their own solo careers, and they disbanded a few years later after the founder and key vocalist Wong Ka Kui died in an accident in Japan (fell off 3.0m stage), leaves the band a LEGEND. Now that I have found out they have awesome songs, I personally think that talented people always die early ._. God loves them too much (told you I'm unique!) I am talented, will I die early too?

I'm so talkative, planned to write only a few lines but now it ended up like a fucking essay.
Sorry for being lame in this post but I just can't help it. Unique people are always lonely and they have complicated mind. I was just merely trying to define my boredom and my complicated mind ._.v

In conclusion, I appreciate good musics regardless of the trend! Or in which centuries the songs are in! If they are good, I appreciate them. Same goes to humans :) If you are good to me, I'll appreciate you. Even if you're bad to me, I'll do no harm to you because if I were to, then what's the differences in you and me?

:)
